Borgo Pignano Florence is a refined boutique hotel nestled in a 5-hectare park on the picturesque Florentine hills, just minutes from the historic center. Part of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux collection, the property will offer 32 elegant rooms and suites, a private villa, an exclusive spa, a heated pool, two restaurants, and enchanting event spaces. The Junior Sommelier will assist in providing an exceptional wine experience to guests, supporting the selection, presentation, and service of wines in accordance with the highest hospitality standards. This role requires a passion for wine, a commitment to continuous learning, and the ability to work closely with the restaurant and bar teams to enhance the overall dining experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in curating and updating the wine list, ensuring a diverse and high-quality selection.
- Provide knowledgeable recommendations to guests, enhancing their dining experience through wine pairings.
- Serve wine in accordance with established service standards, ensuring correct presentation and glassware use.
- Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and optimal conditions of the wine cellar.
- Monitor and manage wine inventory levels, conducting regular stock checks and ensuring minimal waste.
- Assist in planning and executing wine-related promotions, special offers, and themed events.
- Support pre-sales of wines for groups, weddings, and special dining experiences.
- Participate in monthly wine menu engineering and performance analysis.
- Organize and conduct wine tastings, wine dinners, and training sessions for both staff and guests.
- Train and educate restaurant and bar staff on wine knowledge, service techniques, and proper handling.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation regulations regarding wine storage and service.
- Contribute to a positive and professional team environment, working closely with the culinary and service teams.
- Maintain wine-related materials in the POS system, ensuring accuracy and up-to-date offerings.
- Assist in ensuring that proper wine-handling equipment and glassware are available and in excellent condition.
- Participate in daily briefings and food tastings to recommend appropriate wine pairings.
- Provide feedback on guest preferences and wine sales trends to support business growth.
- Assist your colleagues during the service if needed.

Requirements:
- Previous experience in a similar role or strong background in hospitality with a focus on wine service.
- Basic knowledge of wines, grape varieties, regions, and food pairings; certification (e.g., WSET Level 1 or 2) is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a guest-focused approach.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Passion for continuous learning and professional growth in the wine industry.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Fluency in English; additional languages are an advantage.

- 7 months fixed-term contract (grade as per the National Collective Labor Agreement for the Tourism Sector), which can be converted into a permanent contract in 2027 based on good performance.
